For those of you who may be contemplating making a donation(s) to assist those impacted by Hurricane Harvey, I am providing the following information.

I'm certain most legitimate charities are well intentioned but some are more efficient in the use of their resources.

From my review of the many charities accepting donations, I found the Houston Food Bank to be one of the most deserving.

Charity Navigator's overall score and rating is 100 (out of 100.)  This tells me that most of the $$ contributed will be used to help the victims.

Persons can send checks (payable to Houston Food Bank) to Houston Food Bank, 535 Portwall Street, Houston, TX. 77029 or make a contribution by credit card by logging onto the website at houstonfoodbank.org.

For those interested in making donations to help the many pets adversely affected by the hurricane, the Houston Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) is highly rated (97 out of 100) by Charity Navigator.  The website is houstonspca.org, the address is 900 Portway Drive, Houston, 77024.

Persons may  review charities at charitynavigator.org.

Best regards,

Steve Mansfield (2001 Retiree)
