The following is a letter from Steve Mansfield:

Bob Sobie,

Per your request, I have compiled a list of some of the higher rated charities that are accepting donations for hurricane and earthquake relief that you may share with fellow CDAA members.

There are countless charities accepting donations for the millions of persons affected by the recent spate of natural disasters.  Most of these charities are well-respected and well-intentioned.

Some of the lesser known charities are very efficient at utilizing their resources while serving those in need.  I reviewed Charity Navigator and Charity Watch in order to provide a list of charities that are highly rated and  assisting persons affected by hurricanes Harvey, Irma, Maria and the earthquake in Mexico.

These charities are listed below for your reference (I do not recommend any one over the other.)  The organization's websites are listed to allow you to make a direct contribution and/or to review the charity's mission, facts, financial data, etc.

I'm confident these charities will greatly appreciate and effectively utilize your contribution.

(taken from the Charity Navigator website-charitynavigator.org)

Specifically, Charity Navigator's rating system examines two broad areas of a charity's performance; their Financial Health and their Accountability & Transparency. Our ratings show givers how efficiently we believe a charity will use their support today, how well it has sustained its programs and services over time and their level of commitment to good governance, best practices and openness with information. In the not-too-distant future, we plan to also rate charities’ reporting of their results. We provide these ratings so that charitable givers/ social investors can make intelligent giving decisions, and so that the nonprofit sector can improve its performance.

Donations are accepted by check (addresses below) or with a credit card (website address.) You may designate/direct your donation.
