Dear COD Retirees,
This summer, College of DuPage will welcome 12 international students to campus through the Community College Initiative Program (CCIP.) The CCIP brings students from underrepresented countries to community colleges to develop leadership and professional skills as well as English language proficiency.
The 4 women and 8 men attending COD for AY 2012-13 will arrive from Brazil, Egypt, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Pakistan and South Africa. They range in age from 19 to 31. They will study applied engineering, business or MPTV. In addition to academics, the students will participate in community service, internships and cultural enrichment activities. They will live together in apartments local to COD and will be encouraged to join COD student groups and activities.
Sound interesting? You can help.
Each student will have a local host family. The host family will pick him/her up at the airport and host him/her in their house for 3-5 days. During this time, the host family can help the student assimilate to US culture and the local community. Host families will also be asked to commit to one or two days of contact with the student each month, which might include a home-cooked meal, a local outing or an invitation to a holiday celebration. The arrival date for each student has yet to be determined but will occur between mid-June and mid-August.
Please help us find host families! If you or someone you know is interested, email me. I will contact each person directly with more details.
Sincerely,
Sue Kerby
