COD Music alumnus Kevin O'Donnell will present "Life after the Music Business" this week on Music Fridays @ Noon.
Kevin says: "I graduated with a Music Business degree from Elmhurst College the very same year that the business crashed. Only four major record labels remained and most others had downsized by up to 75%. Everything we had learned was suddenly irrelevant. So, I did what all musicians have to do: improvise."
Kevin O'Donnell is the consummate musical entrepreneur. Since the age of nine, when he began playing guitar, he’s explored traditional music of first nation cultures around the globe, produced prog metal and rock operas, learned a variety of traditional instruments, and even built a few of his own.
In addition to producing and engineering recordings, Kevin is the managing partner of a music industry consulting firm, Tinybox LLC. At Tinybox he consults small business owners, musicians, and recording studios on business practices, management, product development and more. His experience in software development as a project manager has also lead him to some interesting opportunities in developing business platforms and engineering tools for his clients.
Formerly an active performer in the Chicago area, Kevin has shifted his primary focus to entrepreneurship and product development. Though, he has been known to lend his guitar and voice to recordings when the price is right. If you’re lucky, you might be able to catch him performing in support of his forthcoming record this fall.
His college education began at COD and was completed at Elmhurst College with a Bachelor of Music Business, emphasis in classical guitar. Currently, he is wood shedding his calculus chops in pursuit of a masters in engineering non linear acoustics.
What Kevin does:
Consulting, technology planning and implementation, system design, work flow optimization, producing, engineering, acoustics, software design.
Noon, MAC 140, free admission.
