Dr. Carter D. Carroll, age 83 of Geneva, formerly of Naperville, IL passed away peacefully, Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2017 at Michaelsen Nursing Care of Batavia. He was born Sept. 3, 1934 in Chicago, IL to his loving late parents, William and Marie Carroll. Cherished husband of Phyllis E. Carroll, nee Przybylski, wedded on Dec. 27, 1958. Beloved father of Mary (Alan) MacLeod of Annapolis, MD, Ellen (Robert Cohen) Carroll of Batavia, IL, Martin (Jill) Carroll of Lombard, IL and the late William Carroll. Adored Papa of Allison, Catherine, and Madeline Carroll, Carter MacLeod, and Vivien and Gemma Cohen. Fond brother of the late William, Richard, Marilyn Deeken, and John Carroll. Carter was a 1952 graduate of St. George High School in Evanston and received his BA in history in 1957 from Roosevelt University. He received his Master's degree from Loyola University in 1961 and his EdD degree from Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, FL in 1979. He was also a US Army veteran. Carter taught history at St. Ignatius High School from 1958 to 1965 and at St. Procopius/Benet Academy from 1965 to 1968. He taught history at the College of Du Page from 1968 to 1992 where he also served as Dean and was awarded the honor of Teacher of the Year on numerous occasions. Carter was also an amazing artist and painter. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Carter D. Carroll Excellence in History Award through the College of Du Page (www.foundation.cod.edu), Masses or charities of your choice would be appreciated. Visitation: Sun., Dec. 17th 2-6 PM at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville, IL 60540. Prayers will begin Mon., Dec. 18th 10:30 AM at the funeral home and will proceed to an 11 AM Mass of Christian Burial at SS. Peter & Paul Church, 36 N. Ellsworth St., Naperville, IL 60540.
